How Pricing Works

Ideally, the cost of designing and applying a tattoo is typically separated and paid in full. However, this may not be the case sometimes: In certain places, tattoo artists may be expected to provide the design for free, as they are compensated for the actual tattooing process. BirthMark addresses this issue with its fair pricing mechanism.

Tattoo Pricing

On BirthMark, the price of a tattoo encompasses both the design and the physical application of the tattoo.

  • When artists set their tattoo prices, half of the amount covers the design, and the other half accounts for the tattooing process.

  • When a sale occurs, half of the sale amount is directly transferred to the artist's wallet.

  • The remaining 50% is held in BirthMark's MarketContract until the day of the tattooing session.

  • On the scheduled tattooing day, at the studio, collectors press the "Get Inked!" button.

  • The remaining half of the sale amount is then sent to the artist's wallet.

  • Once the transfer is finalized, collectors are free to have their tattoos inked onto their skin.

Platform Service Fee

Operating solely for primary sales, BirthMark retains a 5% share from the overall sale price. There are no additional user charges for any other activities within the platform. Collectors enjoy unrestricted transfer and trading of their purchased tattoo NFTs in secondary markets. Artists are at liberty to determine the royalties for their sold tattoos.

Inking & Refund

Collectors have two options regarding the tattoos they have bought: 1) Get Inked!

  • Upon selection, the inking fee will be remitted to the artist

  • The tattoo's Status will transition from Pristine to Inked

  • The Get Inked! button will disappear (Tattoo is no longer inkable)

  • The Request Inking button will become visible

  • The Inked Count will increment by 1

2) Refund Inking

  • Upon selection, the inking fee will be reimbursed to the collector

  • The tattoo's Ink Date will reset to none

  • The Get Inked! button will disappear (Tattoo is no longer inkable)

  • The Request Inking button will become visible

  • A 1% deduction from the inking fee will be applied as a refund processing fee

The Logic

Some collectors might only want to purchase the NFT without getting the tattoo inked. To provide utmost flexibility, BirthMark allows collectors to obtain a refund for the inking fee associated with a purchased tattoo.

On the flip side, artists receive prompt payment for their designs. Their inking fee remains secure until the actual tattooing day at the studio.

Collectors are encouraged to click the "Get Inked!" button to proceed with tattooing. Meanwhile, artists are motivated to ink the tattoo in order to receive their inking fee.

Refund Processing Fee

When collectors receive a refund for the inking fee, a 1% processing fee is subtracted from the total and is directed to the BirthMark Treasury.

These processing fees serve as a means to acknowledge and incentivize artists and collectors who engage with the platform as intended. Over time, those who have their tattoos inked and artists who fulfill their sold tattoo orders will be periodically rewarded from the BirthMark Treasury.

The refund processing fee establishes a motivating cycle, aligning with our platform's vision, and also accommodates the trading of tattoo NFTs on secondary markets by speculators.

The official version of BirthMark Tattoo is currently in development. The fee amounts specified on this page may undergo changes prior to the platform's launch on the mainnet.
